World Dances was commissioned by the National School Band Association for the 2006 Sandwell Festival of WInd. It was first performed at West Bromwich Town Hall, conducted by the composer. It was originally scored for wind band with optional rhythm ensembles (Dhol drums, Steel band, Samba band and Djembe drums).
Such was the success of the performance that a version for youth orchestra was commissioned, followed by a version for brass band and another for youth brass band. The various versions are compatible so can be performed together.
The brass band version was premiered by the Parc & Dare Band, conducted by the composer at the 2007 Welsh Arts Brass Festival and the Youth Brass Band version in 2008 at the Sage Gateshead.
